Throughout reading this mystery book I noticed some things about myself and things people would not usually notice. Most of the time I can be pretty logical and solve riddles. This book and others by Agatha Christie are very hard to solve. The facts that Poirot uses to solve the mystery are always overlooked by me. Agatha Christie lays such a good false trail of clues that I always follow it. This helped me realize that I am not as logical as I sometimes think I am. Sometimes I can also be like Captain Hastings, the facts are staring me in the face and I don’t notice them. These books could help increase my logic. This is so because reading more and more of Christie’s books might help me get used to her way of thinking and plotting. This would then allow me to follow her real clues instead of the false ones. Something else I noticed while reading The A.B.C Murders is that it could be a model for real life. It is not just a fun story to read. Even though it is fictional, something like this could potentially happen. It also informs us on what’s out there. There are people who are mad and kill people because they think they are clever and/or for their enjoyment. When others read this book they might feel a little sad. If they realize that this is not just a story for entertainment but can also be reality, they probably won’t enjoy reading this mystery novel as much. I did not think of this while reading the novel. I thought about this later while reflecting on what I read. Instead of digging deeper for other meanings in the novel while reading it, I was held in anticipation and confusion. Agatha Christie is very good at making her books suspenseful. Throughout this book she makes things clear so that you are never confused on what is happening. Even though I always have a hard time solving the mystery on my own, I always know what is happening and where the characters are. This book also informs us that there are people out there who lie to save themselves. One character, Franklin Clark, turned out to be the murderer. He worked very hard to place the blame on another person. It turned out that he was successful in laying a false trail. He also pretended to be very sad at the loss of his brother, one of the victims, when really it was Clarke who had killed him. Reading this book helped me learn these things are or brought them to my attention.
